How do I measure the voltage stored in a capacitor with a multimeter, but not discharge the capacitor?
I have a capacitor that stores EDL energy obtained from a particular chemical reaction. I need to calculate the amount of energy generated by the creation of a voltage vs. load graph capacitor and the search for your area. This means I have to keep constantly connected multimeter, but can not reduce the charge stored in capacitor EDL. How can I accomplish this? Thank you very much!
If the capacitor is small, and I believe this is from your comments, then you need special high impedance meter or amplifier. It's pretty easy to find OpAmps with inflows of 200 FA (AD8605 is one). At 10 volts, which is the resistance 5e13 equivalent or 50 ohms Teraohms. You can connect one of them as a voltage follower and connect the output to a normal multimeter. If 200 fA is not enough, then you need special equipment.

My Dell Notebook uses a power adapter that has an output voltage of 16V at 4.5A current. One day the adapter stopped working.
I decided to try to repair the adapter. In the past I repaired several switching power supplies of PCs and also one AC-power adapter of a Asus notebook. I found out that most of the supplies had similar defects. Often they are ease to locate and to repair.
This Instructable shows how to repair a Dell Notebook AC-Adapter but using the same principles it can work with any switching power supply.
